About Milford, MI

Milford is less than an hour from  Detroit, located in Oakland County in Michigan state. Based on reports from the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.52 square miles, of which 2.43 square miles is land and 0.9 square miles is water.

According to the historical information from Milford Historical Society, in their book  “An Account of Oakland County”

“The development of the town of Milford, MI started in 1832 with the building of a sawmill by Stanley Ruggles and Elizur”. This was the opening to many innovations in the area before its incorporation in 1869.

In 1834, the town’s first post office was set up and the first gristmill was constructed in 1835.

By 1836 a lower mill pond was built to supply waterpower for different mills and factories within the town. The erection of an upper mill pond followed suit in 1845 and the list goes on.

The hydropower generated made Milford, MI one of the foremost communities to have electric power in 1892.

Year after year more constructions and innovations followed, which has gradually evolved into the beautiful town many know it by, today.
